These are NOT English Bulldogs; The Olde English is a re-creation of the classic bulldog of the 1700-1800’s. Back then when bull-baiting was legal the bulldogs were bigger, more stout and healthier. After the ban of bull-baiting, the bulldog became sized down and mixed with Pugs, bringing about the flat face and curly tails. It took a couple hundred years, but now you see what they turned the bulldog into, a health ridden dog that averages a low life span and cannot handle any basic activities that a family pet should be able to. The English Bulldogs have many health problems and require artificial insemination and c-section birthing, which makes them cost much more.
Breeding a Better Bulldogge
Our bulldogges are a re-creation of the classic. We did not invent this breed, it was re-established and heavily introduced breed in the 1970’s by a couple different people. David Leavitt and Greg Hermes were the two main breeders who re-invented this wonderful breed. Both mastered their creations, Leavitt’s bloodlines being smaller and part of our Sumo lines and Hermes bloodlines being larger like our Hermes boy Cain. We have tried hard to have the best of both bulldogge lines in our program. Both Hermes and Leavitt were looking to re-create the bulldogge of the past for the better health, more mobility and longevity in life while leaving behind the vicious temperament needed to fight bulls.
